NORFOLK, Va. (February 28, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball came out on top in their second game of the weekend against Norfolk State, defeating the Spartans by a score of 6-5, putting down a potential rally in the bottom of the ninth. With the win, the Mountaineers move to 4-5 on the year with the opportunity to get back to .500 on the year with a series win on Sunday afternoon.
Norfolk State's Journette led the Spartans to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, hitting a long ball off of
Eli DeRossi. But a
Christian Bauman single to right field sent
Joey Agar to home plate, tying the game in the top of the third.
Norfolk State regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth as the Spartans hit out a three-run home run to take a 4-1 lead. But, a resurgent Mount offensive attack took the lead in the top of the fifth inning off of an
Evan Meier fielder's choice that scored
Phoenix Williams.
David Stokely came to bat later in the inning and with the bases loaded, promptly sent a ball over the fence for the Mount's second Grand Slam of the weekend.
The Spartans found some room in the bottom of the ninth, scoring a run off a fielder's choice with two outs on the board. But
JB Manarchuck outpaced the final batter of the afternoon, producing a groundout back to the mound to wrap the game and the win up in the ninth.
