EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 6, 2026) – With seven goals in the fourth quarter, Mount St. Mary's made a big comeback effort to force the issue with LIU in the 2026 season opener. The Sharks did respond with two late goals to take the win, 14-12.
Kevin Whitty was the top point earner for the Mountaineers, securing five assists and two goals for seven points.
Chris Grimaldi had the most goals with four tallies in his first Mount St. Mary's game.
Collin Thomson and
Carter Quested were multi-goal scorers, with Thomson adding two assists.
Bennett Wright recorded 12 saves in goal and
Sean Center-Wilhelm had two caused turnovers.
For LIU, Drew Togno and Ben McIsaac recorded hat tricks. Tyler Gresh registered 16 saves for the Sharks.
THE TALE OF THE TAPE
- Aidan Kilduff scored the first goal of the year with an assist from Thomson.
- Grimaldi posted a goal with 8:11 in the first quarter, assisted by Whitty, to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
- LIU took their first lead with a Togno goal at the 2:21 mark of the first.
- After Grimaldi scored again to tie the game in the second quarter, the Sharks scored three of the next four to hold a 6-4 halftime advantage.
- Goals by Togno, McIsaac, and Khairi Sears extended the Sharks' score to 9-4 before Grimaldi responded for his hat trick.
- Trailing 10-5 entering the fourth, the Mount rallied with goals from Whitty, Quested, and Thomson to pull back to 10-8.
- Another 4-0 run with goals by Whitty, Marcelo Carreiro, Grimaldi, and an equalizer from Thomson leveled the score with 3:48 to go in the game.
- Ryan Baudo gave the Sharks the lead, and Aidan Zuhoski iced the contest for LIU.
