Mount Softball Falls to George Washington and Drexel on Saturday

Rock Hill, S.C. (February 21, 2026)—Mount St. Mary's dropped a pair of games on the opening day of the Coach Cooke Memorial Tournament hosted by Winthrop on Saturday.  The Mount fell to George Washington, 3-2, in the opening game of the day.  Drexel handed Mount St. Mary's a 7-2 setback in game two.

In the opening game, George Washington scratched out the game's first run in the top of the first when Jazlene Ramos scored on a wild pitch.  The Mount (1-6) evened the score in the bottom of the fourth on Zoe Pachoca's two-out RBI single to plate Kelsie Bandelow, who led off the inning with a double.

The Revolutionaries regained the lead in the fifth when Cece Smith homered, but the Mount answered back in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.  Gina Del Giorno and Sharon Manni drew one-out walks and Bandelow singled to load the bases.  Del Giorno then came home on a passed ball to tie the score at 2-2.

George Washington scored the winning run in the top of the seventh when Paige Hayward walked with two outs, and scored on Cadence Gilliand's RBI double.  Del Giorno walked and Manni singled in the bottom of the seventh to put runners on first and second with no outs.  The Revolutionaries were able to escape the jam with a pop out and a pair of groundouts.

Bandelow went 2-for-4 while Del Giorno was 1-for-2 with two walks to pace the offense.  Emmaleigh Zagrodnicheck struck out six while allowing seven hits and three runs in a complete-game effort for the Mount in the circle.
In the second game, the Mount lost to Drexel, 7-2.  Avery Dinges provided the Mount offense with a two-run homer in the game.

The Mount took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Bandelow doubled with two outs, and Dinges followed with a two-run blast to put the Mount in front.

The Dragons evened the score with two runs in the second off Mount starter Ellie Meier in the second, and took the lead on an unearned run in the fourth.  Kylah Reading broke the game open with a grand slam in the fifth for Drexel to make it 7-2.

Meier allowed two earned runs in three innings of work while Sophia Vlahos allowed four runs in three innings of relief.

The Mount plays George Washington at 10:00 am and host Winthrop at 12:30 pm tomorrow to finish out the tournament.
