COLUMBIA, Md. (February 20, 2026) – Mount St. Mary's baseball lost game one of their three-game set to Massachusetts on Friday afternoon, falling to the Minutemen by a score of 6-4. With the loss, the Mount skids back below .500 with a record of 2-3 on the young season.
Serigne Sarre hummed in the first innings of his Friday start, retiring eight batters through the first three innings while striking out two in the process. But the UMass bats began to work in the fourth, as the minutemen took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the inning.
In the top of the sixth,
Jackson Snyder came in to relieve, walking the lead-off man and allowing a UMass single while getting the first out on a ball to
Bryce Rudisill at first base.
Christian Pownall came in to relieve Snyder for a one-batter appearance, striking out the batter while making way for
JB Manarchuck's entrance, who promptly dispatched the last Minuteman batter of the inning with a swinging strikeout.
The Mount bats stayed cold until the nine-hole hitter,
Evan Meier led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a first pitch home run over the left field wall, tying the game at 1-1.
Scores remained frozen through the seventh inning until UMass exploded in the top of the eighth, scoring three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Later in the top of the ninth, the Minutemen extended the lead to 6-1 with the Mount bats due up in the bottom half of the inning.
Nathan Rodriguez led off the inning in a pinch-hit appearance, dispatching the ball to right-center for a leadoff double.
Sam Meyer bunted Rodriguez over to third while Meier singled through the outfield to drive the run in.
Alex Mendes singled to continue the roll while
Christian Bauman walked to load the bases.
Ty Fredo Singled through the infield, driving in two runs to drive the score to 6-4, but with two outs, the Mount batters could not complete a dramatic comeback.
