EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 3, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo goalkeeper Sherif Hosni was named the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office on Wednesday.

Hosni claimed the award off the back of a 54 save weekend at the Air Force Rare Air Challenge in Colorado, including a career best 20 saves against preseason No. 3 California. Across his four starts at Air Force, Hosni recorded a 41% save percentage against No. 20 Air Force, Biola, Redlands, and No. 3 California. He also notched five steals, a shot on goal, and an assist.

Along with Hosni, Alexandros Belesis and Ioannis Skliras were named as honorable mentions for Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively. Belesis notched 16 goals and three assists in his four starts in Colorado, including an eight-goal showing against Redlands on August 30. And Skliras notched five goals and three assists in four games, with a debut hat trick against Redlands.

The Mountaineers return to action next weekend at the Princeton open where they will take on the hosts on September 5 while playing games against Santa Clara and LIU on September 6 and September 7 respectively.
