Princeton, N.J. (September 6, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's water polo fell to Santa Clara on Saturday night by a score of 23-13. With the loss, the Mount falls to 0-2 on the weekend, losing to ranked Princeton on Friday afternoon.
After a 2-0 start for the Broncos,
Ioannis Skliras started the scoring for the Mountaineers with a goal in the second minute of the quarter.
Alexandros Belesis followed suit with six minutes of the clock followed by goals from
Chrysostomos Valavanis and
Aaron Tarr to end the quarter, down by a score of 7-4. Two more Bronco goals came in to start the second, broken up by a goal from Belesis to start the Mount scoring mark. The Greek scored again with 22 seconds left on the clock to take a score of 13-6 into the halftime team talk.
William Matthews notched his first goal as a Mountaineer in the third quarter followed by a debut goal from
John Zingo. Tarr and Belesis grabbed goals followed by a goal from
Jack Fox.
William Matthews notched his first ever Mount hattrick in the fourth, scoring two goals in the quarter.
In the game, Belesis grabbed four goals while Matthews notched a hattrick against Santa Clara, while Tarr secured a brace. Valavanis, Zingo, Fox, and Skliras all notched solo scores against the Broncos.
