EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 9, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse suffers its first setback in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, falling 12-8 to the Niagara Purple Eagles Wednesday at Waldron Family Stadium.
The Mountaineers now stand at 8-5 (4-1 MAAC) on the year.
Success in the draw control circle ended up being nixed by an uncharacteristic number of turnovers, as the team had in season highs for both.
Hailey Chester won seven draws in the circle, followed by five from
Molly Molchanoff. But the Mount also had 22 giveaways, eclipsing their season total by one.
On offense,
Anna Salerno kept her hat trick streak alive, scoring three goals to post three or more for the sixth consecutive game.
Brooke Molchanoff and
Anna McQuay had multi-goal performances.
Mackenzi Furlong and
MK Allingham secured assists.
Early play proved unindicative of what was to come, as the Mount stormed out to a 4-0 lead. Sharing the lad, McQuay,
Brooke Molchanoff, Furlong, and Salerno all found the back of the net. Niagara responded with the last three goals of the period. Late in the second quarter, Michaela Delles posted a goal to give the Purple Eagles their first advantage heading into halftime.
Niagara did not look back once they had the lead. They scored four of the first five goals in the second half to seize the momentum and take the contest.
Mount St. Mary's looks to bounce back on the road when they face the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday (Apr. 12). First draw is at noon from Poughkeepsie.
