Women's Tennis Recap: Mount St. Mary's Rolls Past Merrimack for First MAAC Win
HERSHEY, Pa. — Mount St. Mary's women's tennis team picked up its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) victory of the season with a commanding 4-1 win over Merrimack on Saturday afternoon at the Hershey Racquet Club.
The Mount came out strong in doubles, sweeping all three courts to claim the opening point. Venus Tang and Bella Pescatore earned a hard-fought 7-6 (11-9) victory at No. 1 doubles, while Margherita Trolese and Amari O'Brien breezed to a 6-0 win at No. 2. Kaajal Ramisetty and Valentine Mudry completed the sweep with a 7-6 (7-5) win on court three.
In singles play, the Mount continued to dominate. Though Merrimack earned its lone point at the top spot—where Kiana Thompson edged Tang in a tiebreak before Tang was forced to retire—the Mountaineers responded with three decisive wins.
Trolese bounced back from a narrow first-set loss to take a 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. Ramisetty was solid at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jordan Phillips, and Mudry rolled at No. 6 with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Two matches were left unfinished with Mount players in strong positions.
With the win, Mount St. Mary's improves to 1-3 in MAAC play and builds momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
