New Rochelle, N.Y. (April 5, 2025)--Iona completed a three-game sweep over Mount St. Mary's with an 8-2 win on Saturday afternoon.  Lia Festa hit her third home run of the season while Gina Del Giorno added a pair of his in the game for the Mountaineers.  The Mount falls to 8-26 overall and 3-10 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

After Iona (16-12, 10-1 MAAC) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, Lia Festa evened the score with her third home run of the year with a solo shot in the top of the third inning.  The Gaels responded with four runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth for a 6-1 advantage.  Laurenne Gallagher doubled and scored on a Tristin Koerner single in the sixth to get a run back for the Mount, but the Gaels added two runs in the bottom of the inning for an 8-2 victory.

Del Giorno went 2-for-4 in the game to round out a strong weekend where the Mount leadoff hitter hit .417 (5-for-12) in the series.  Amaya Bowman started for the Mount, allowing six runs (four earned) in three innings.  Sophia Schmehl pitched the final three innings, allowing a pair of runs.

The Mount returns to action on Tuesday with a home MAAC doubleheader against Rider at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.
