Emmitsburg, Md (April 5, 2025) – The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team fell to Canisius on Saturday (April 5), 12-6. The Mount falls to 0-5 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play, and 2-9 overall.
Brody Atkinson led The Mountaineers on offense, tallying two goals, one assist, two groundballs, and one caused turnover. Atkinson ties his career goals in a season, netting 30 this year.
Carter Quested,
Jack Smith,
Aidan Kilduff, and
Kevin Whitty each tallied one goal towards the Mount effort. Defender
Nate Committee caused three turnovers in the contest, leading the team in that category.
Garrett Conley won half of his faceoffs taken, going 9-18.
Jaden Saysanam won one of his three taken. In goal,
Bennett Wright corralled nine of the 21 shots on goal in the contest from Canisius. Wright also scooped up three groundballs.
Canisius' Kayden Easter, Mason Wolford, Peter Biglin, and Jordan Reed all scored two goals for the Golden Griffins. Jaxon Fridge led the team in points, assisting teammates on four different goals. Goalkeeper Tommy Kunz saved eight of the 14 shots on goal in the contest.
Canisius began the scoring with two unanswered goals in the first.
Brody Atkinson started the scoring for the Mount with his first goal coming assisted by
Mekai Nelson, with seven minutes remaining in the first quarter. After two more Canisius goals,
Aidan Kilduff scored his sixth goal of the season to end the first quarter.
Canisius remained in control for the first eight minutes of the second quarter until
Jack Smith scored a solo goal with seven minutes remaining in the half. Canisius answered the Smith goal with four unanswered goals. Atkinson netted one more goal with 0:33 remaining in the first half. The teams entered the locker rooms with Canisius winning, 8-4.
The Mount scored early in the second half, with
Carter Quested scoring a solo goal of his own. After a Canisius goal,
Kevin Whitty took advantage of a man-up opportunity and added another Mount goal. Canisius added one more goal in the quarter and held onto the four-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Golden Griffins held the Mount scoreless in the fourth and added two more goals to secure the win, 12-6.
The Mount begins a two-game road trip on Saturday, April 12, first taking on Merrimack, and then heading to Connecticut to face off with MAAC leader Sacred Heart. The Mount returns home on April 23 to finish the regular season against Iona.
