BUFFALO, N.Y. (April 26, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball was defeated by Canisius by a score of 10-2 on Saturday afternoon in upstate New York. With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 9-11 record in the MAAC and a 16-25 overall record.
The Mount was held scoreless through the first five innings of the game while the Golden Griffins took a 6-0 lead.
Evan Smith broke the shutout for the Mountaineers in the top of the sixth, reaching base on a fielder's choice while
Mateo Zeppieri crossed home plate. Later, in the top of the seventh,
Sam Grube hit out a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring
Bryce Rudisill from third and ending the Mount's scoring efforts on the second day of the series.
Five Mountaineers recorded hits against the Golden Griffins including Grube, Rudisill,
Alex Mendes,
Nolan Book, and
Kyle Cincinnati. A combination of
Ryan Brown,
Eli DeRossi, and
Andrew Cheripka pitched during the game for the Mount, with the trio accruing 10 combine strikeouts during the outing.
