Mount Softball Drops Rubber Game to Siena, 4-2

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 19, 2025)--Mount St. Mary's dropped the rubber game of its three-game series with Siena, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Our Lady of the Meadows Field on campus.  Emma Tawney and Tristin Koerner each has a pair of hits to pace the Mountaineers in the game.

The Saints (26-16-1, 10-5-1 MAAC) struck for a pair of unearned runs in the top of the first to take the early 2-0 advantage.  Gianna DiMeglio provided the big hit, a two-out single with the bases loaded to put Siena on top.  The score remained that way until the top of the fifth when Siena's Emma Petersen drove a two-run home run over the left field fence to push the advantage to four.

The Mountaineers (9-33, 4-17 MAAC) answered back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Gina Del Giorno singled with one out, and Kelsie Bandelow followed with a walk.  Koerner then dropped a base hit in front of the center fielder to score Del Giorno with the Mount's first run of the game.  After Bandelow moved to third on a Brianna Manni fly out, Laurenne Gallagher singled off the first baseman's glove to plate Bandelow to slice the deficit to 4-2.  The Mountaineers had two runners on in both the sixth and seventh innings, but Siena's Gracie Goewey was able to escape the jam on each occasion to pick up her first save of the season.

Amaya Bowman started for the Mount, allowing tow unearned runs in two innings of work.  Sophia Schmehl pitched the middle three innings, allowing the two-run homer by Petersen while striking out three.  Olivia Murphy closed out the game for the Mount with two scoreless innings of relief.  Alissa Eimont picked up the win for Siena, allowing two runs and five hits in five innings.  Goewey struck out four in her two-inning save.

The Mount returns to action on Wednesday, April 23, with a 2:00 p.m. home game against George Mason.
