Zeppieri’s Moonshot Sends Everybody Home After Twelfth Inning Win Against Marist

EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 17, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball got back in the win column on Thursday afternoon after a twelfth inning walk-off against Marist, beating the Red Foxes 5-4 in Emmitsburg. With the win, the Mountaineers jump back to a .500 record in conference, going 8-8 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

After a one-run inning in the top of the first by the Red Foxes, the Mountaineers put up a two spot in the bottom of the second after Evan Smith walked with the bases loaded to drive in Ethan Flaugher and Evan Meier hit into a sacrifice fly to score Bryce Rudisill to take a 2-1 lead. Later in the bottom of the third, Sam Grube homered to right field to go up 3-1 on Marist.

Marist put up three more runs in the top of the fifth and sixth to regain a 4-3 lead only for Nick Fleming to hit into a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to score Smith, tying the game. After a shutout eighth and ninth innings from both sides, Josh Halcisak came in from the bullpen to pitch 3.0 innings of 1 hit baseball in extra innings, working out of multiple close calls including a two-out, bases loaded situation in the top of the twelfth, striking out the eighth man in the lineup to go to the bottom of the inning.

Mateo Zeppieri was 1-4 with a walk and a strikeout heading into the top of the twelfth. With a 1-1 count in his at-bat, Zeppieri sent a towering ball out to right field, flipping his bat in stride as his teammates stormed the field to celebrate at home plate with him after the game winning long ball.

Spurred on by Owen Crowe's seven strikeouts in five innings of work, the rest of the Mount bullpen put on a gutsy performance against Marist. Along with Halcisak's 3.0 innings of relief, Maximus McCrary pitched 3.0 innings of work while striking out two batters. For his efforts in extra innings, Halcisak was awarded with his third win of the year, leveling his season record to 3-3.
