Mount Bowling Advances to USBC Nationals Following Third Place Finish at Sectionals

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 9, 2025) – For the third time in program history, Mount St. Mary's bowling qualified for the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championship. The team finished third in the Allen Park sectional to become one of the 16 teams set to compete for a national title in Las Vegas in April.

Starting the day on the outside looking in, the Mountaineers made the jump from fifth place to earn the qualification. A strong finish in the morning session made the difference. In games 42-48, the Mount crossed the 200-pin threshold in each game but one, capping the run with a 279 to end the session. Consistent bowling in the afternoon maintained the spot.

Mount St. Mary's moves on with North Carolina A&T, Pikeville, and Saint Xavier in the sectional.

The program makes its first ITC appearance since the 2022 campaign. That year the Mount defeated Duquesne, Delaware State, and McKendree before falling to Pikeville on the cusp of the final four. In 2021, the program made their first appearance at nationals, earning a win against Stephen F. Austin in the process.

April 17 marks the beginning of the ITC at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Qualifying opens the session, followed by double elimination match play. Before the team competes, Piper Chalmers and Leah Varela compete as individuals in the Intercollegiate Singles Championships, starting on April 15.
