EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 9, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball lost a one-run contest to Sacred Heart in game three of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference season opener as the Pioneers defeated the Mountaineers 7-6. With the loss, the Mount moves to a 7-7 overall record with a 1-2 record in the MAAC.
The Mountaineers got on the board after a
Nolan Book single scored
Sam Grube and
Ty Fredo to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. After the Pioneers took a 4-2 lead in the top of the eight, the Mountaineers went on a scoring run in the bottom of the eight when a
Bryce Rudisill ground out scored Grube.
Mateo Zeppieri reached first on an error by the pitcher while Fredo scored to tie the game. The Mount took the lead with a pinch-hit single from substitution specialist
Nick Fleming scored Zeppieri to take a 5-4 lead. After a Sacred Heart RBI double and two-run home run reestablished the Pioneers lead, a Book hit by pitch in the bottom of the ninth scored
Alex Mendes. But with a two out deep fly to centerfield, the Mount was unable to complete the comeback.
Book recorded the best offensive output for the Mount against Sacred Heart while going 1-3 with three RBIs. Grube went 1-4 in his appearance with a run scored and a stolen base. Rudisill went 1-3 with a RBI. And Fleming went 1-1 with a RBI in his pinch hit appearance.
Eli DeRossi went 6.2 innings with nine strikeouts.
