Emmitsburg, Md. (March 8, 2025)--Mount St. Mary's used a strong defensive effort to post a 62-52 victory over Marist on Senior Day at Knott Arena on Saturday afternoon.  Dallas Hobbs scored a team-high 17 points while Dola Adebayo added his third double-double over the past four games to pace the Mountaineers.  The Mount closes the regular season with a 19-12 overall record and a 12-8 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).  The Mount and Marist will match up again in five days in the MAAC Quarterfinals at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

The Mount finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the MAAC standings, but tiebreakers put the Mount as the No. 6 seed at the MAAC Tournament.  Marist finished in third place with a 13-7 league record and a 20-9 overall mark.

The Red Foxes used a 19-to-3 run to build a 19-to-11 advantage just past the midpoint of the first half.  Marist held its biggest lead of the game, 26-16, after a Jacson Price three-pointer with 4:09 left in the half.  The Mount scored the next five points on a Malcolm Dread three-pointer and an Adebayo basket.  A Xavier Lipscomb drive cut the deficit to 27-23, but Marist was able to close the half on a Trace Salton lay-up at the buzzer.

Mount St. Mary's had a quick start to the second half, scoring the first 11 points to take a 34-29 lead.  Jedy Cordilia sandwiched baskets around an Adebayo hook shot to tie the score at 29-290.  Hobbs gave the Mount the lead with a deep two-point basket, and his three-pointer 5:51 into the half push the lead to five.

Leading 36-34, the Mount scored seven unanswered points to make it 43-34.  Another Hobbs triple started the streak, Adebayo hit 1-of-2 at the line, and a Javon Ervin three forced a Marist 30-second timeout.  Marist responded with back-to-back three-pointers from leading scorer Josh Pascarelli to cut the Mount's advantage to three, but Hobbs answered with his third three-pointer of the second half to push the advantage back to 46-40.  Marist's Elijah Lewis countered with a three of his own to cut the Mount lead back to three with 6:07 left, but a Cordilia traditional three-point play put the Mount back up by six. 

The Mount sealed the win with a 10-to-2 spurt for its biggest lead of the game at 59-47 with 1:49 left in the game.  Adebayo had five points in the run that was capped by an Ervin three-point play.

The Mountaineers held Marist to 8-of-31 (.258) shooting in the second half, including 5-of-18 (.278) from beyond the three-point arc.  Overall, Marist hit just 19-of-61 (.311) from the field in the game and was 9-of-34 (.265) from beyond the three-point arc.  Mount St. Mary's shot 56.3 percent in the second half, hitting 5-of-11 (.455) from three.

Hobbs scored 13 of his team-high 17 points in the second half while also dishing out three assists.  Adebayo added 16 points and 12 rebounds for his third double-double over the past four games.  Ervin and Cordilia added nine points each in the win while Lipscomb had six rebounds and six assists.

GAME NOTES

• Mount St. Mary's is now 16-8 all-time against the Red Foxes, including 11-2 at home.  The Mount has won nine in a row against the Red Foxes at Knott Arena with the last Marist win in Emmitsburg coming in 1992.
• Adebayo is averaging 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds over the past four games for the Mountaineers.  He leads the team with five double-doubles this year.
• It was Senior Day for the Mountaineers with Adebayo, Terrell Ard Jr., Cordilia and Dread being honored before the game.
• The Mount's 19 wins this season third most in a season since the Mount moved to NCAA Division I in 1988-89.  The 19 wins are the most by a Mountaineer team since the team went 20-16 in 2016-17.
• The Mount's 12 MAAC wins this year are the most since joining the league in 2022-23.
• The Mountaineers were picked 11th in the MAAC preseason poll and finished in a tie for fourth place.
