EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 5, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse gave Virginia Tech a lot to handle in a Wednesday game in Blacksburg, Virginia. The Hokies prevailed in the end by a 9-7 final.
Five members of the team scored in the contest, with
Logan Cook earning a hat trick.
Mackenzi Furlong was the leader in points, finishing with two assists and a goal.
Brooke Molchanoff won possessions for the Mount six times, helping the team win the draw control battle 11-9.
The second quarter is where the Mountaineers established their presence in the game. Down 4-0, the team ripped off a 4-0 run with goals by Molchanoff, Furlong, and two from Cook. Virginia Tech would score to go back in front, but Cook's third goal leveled proceedings at halftime.
Madison Harmening polished off a free position shot with 11:19 left in the third quarter for the visitors' first lead, 6-5. The home side would respond with a pair before
Anna Salerno tied the contest again with 3:52 to go in the third. A goal early in the fourth by the Hokies put them ahead, and strong defense by the Hokies ensured they would stay there.
The Mount is now 3-3 for the season.
This Sunday (March 9), the Mountaineers host Old Dominion at Waldron Family Stadium. First draw is at noon.
