Emmitsburg, Md. (March 25, 2025)--Mount St. Mary's erupted for a season high in runs in a 10-1 victory over Manhattan in game two of today's doubleheader at Our Lady of the Meadows Field. The win snapped the Mount's 14-game losing streak, and improves the team's record to 6-20 overall and 1-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. The Jaspers took the opener, 7-0.
In the game two victory,
Laurenne Gallagher cracked her first career home run, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a home run and three RBI. Pitcher
Sophia Schmehl tossed a complete game, losing her shutout bid with two outs in the top of the fifth inning. Schmehl struck out four in a two-hit complete-game effort for her second win of the season.
Gina Del Giorno, who had four hits on the day, went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while
Brianna Manni was 2-for-3 with a double and a pair of runs in the win.
The Mount took the early lead when Gallagher doubled in Del Giorno in the bottom of the first to give the Mount a 1-0 advantage. It was the same duo that kick-started a seven-run third inning that put the Mountaineers in control of game two. Del Giorno singled, and came home on a Gallagher two-run homer to center field.
Maya Alvarez added a run-scoring two-base hit with the final three runs coming on errors.
Tristin Koerner added an RBI single and Alvarez a sacrifice fly in the fourth to give the Mount a commanding 10-0 lead.
In the opening game, Manhattan's Karissa Spring scattered four hits in a complete-game shutout win to lead the Jaspers to a 7-0 win. Sophia Kiseloski hit a solo home run for Manhattan in the victory while Spring helped her own cause, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Del Giorno led the Mount with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.
Olivia Murphy started for the Mount, allowing six runs (two earned) in three innings of work.
Ellie Meier tossed the final four innings, allowing four runs (one earned).
The Mount is back in action this weekend against Canisius, beginning with a noon doubleheader on Saturday at Our Lady of the Meadows Field.
