EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 22, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball finished out their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series against Niagara with an 8-5 win, earning their first conference series win of 2025. With the win, the Mountaineers move to an overall record of 10-12 with a MAAC record of 4-5.
To start the game,
Jakob Foster pitched four and a third innings of shutout baseball until the Purple Eagles got on the board in the top of the fourth, making way for
Eli DeRossi after a four-strikeout outing. But the Mountaineers got on board the inning before Foster excited, thanks in part to a
Nolan Book Single that drove in
Ty Fredo and
Sam Grube. Two more Mountaineer runs came across in the bottom of the fifth after Book and
Mikey Rodriguez hit out back-to-back solo home runs to extend the Mountaineer lead to three runs. In the bottom of the seventh, runs poured in after an
Evan Meier Single turned into a bases clearing knock after the right fielder let the ball go past him in the outfield.
Kyle Cincinnati hit into a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher later in the inning, scoring Meier from third to up the Mount's lead to seven. After a shaky ending to DeRossi's innings in the top of the ninth,
Josh Halcisak came in to close the game out, ensuring a Mountaineer victory and a series win.
Book led the way from the plate on the day, going 2-3 with a home run, a walk, and three RBIs. Rodriguez went 1-4 with a homerun and two runs scored.
Alex Mendes also went 3-4 at the plate today with a stolen base in tow.And
Evan Meier went 1-4 with three RBIs against Niagara on Sunday. DeRossi was accredited with the win after 4.1 IP of work with four strikeouts.
