Emmitsburg, Md (March 22, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse couldn't complete a late-game comeback against Marist, losing 13-12. The Mountaineers fall to 2-7 this season, and 0-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
The Mountaineers were led by
Brody Atkinson and
Jack Smith, scoring three goals each.
Aidan Kilduff and
Kevin Whitty put together a two-goal effort, while
Carter Quested and
Collin Thomson added one each. After leading the goal-scoring last game against Manhattan, Quested led the team in assists with three in the contest Saturday (Mar. 22). Whitty added two assists to his stat line, while Smith, Thomson,
Connor Barrett, and
Will McKay all assisted one goal each.
Garrett Conley took the majority of faceoffs for the Mount, winning eight of his 15 attempts.
Jaden Saysanam contributed four-won faceoffs for the Mountaineers.
Bennett Wright added another game with more saves (16) than goals allowed (13). Wright also contributed four groundballs from the goalkeeper position.
Marists' Collin Patrick and Sean Mullan combined for six goals for the Red Foxes, both with three. Drew Andersen and Steven Cain added two, while Peter Murray, Sam Ferrel, and Michael Cassanno scored one goal. Collin Patrick also added two assists and one groundball in the contest. Goalkeeper Adam Wacholder saved 14 shots in his second win of his freshman campaign.
Marist took the lead early, scoring three unanswered goals in the first five minutes of the game. The Mount retaliated with three unanswered goals of their own, two from Whitty and one from
Jack Smith. The first quarter came to an end with Marist scoring three more goals and holding the lead, 6-3. Marist continued the three unanswered goal trend, as the Mount could not net a goal in the second quarter. The Red Foxes went into the locker room with the lead, 9-3. The third quarter was an even bout with both teams scoring two goals. Smith scored the first goal of the second half with just under two minutes off the clock. Marist answered with a fastbreak goal from defender Michael Cassano. After a goal from Atkinson, Marist answered again. The Red Foxes lead held at six goals, 11-5. Once the final quarter started, the Mountaineers lessened the gap. The Mount outscored the Red Foxes by seven to two in the fourth quarter. Atkinson sparked the fire under the Mountaineers, scoring two goals in the quarter.

Carter Quested, and
Jack Smith all contributed to the comeback effort.
Aidan Kilduff scored the final two goals of the game with 30 seconds remaining on the clock. The Red Foxes were able to win the faceoff after Kilduff's goal and ran out the remaining time in the game. The Mountaineers were unable to complete the comeback, giving Marist the win, 13-12.
Next, the Mountaineers will travel to Loudonville, NY to take on Siena in MAAC play. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
