Early Inning Run Support Helps Mount Best Niagara in Game Two

EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 22, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball reigned victorious in game two of their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game against Niagara as the Mountaineers defeated the Purple Eagles by a score of 12-4. With the win the Mount moves to an overall record of 9-12 with a conference record of 3-5.

The Mount started strong within the top of the first, as the starter on the day, Jake Andrews, struck out the Niagara leadoff batter and clean up hitter. To start the Mount half of the first, Sam Grube hit a tower ball that eked over the right field wall to take an early 1-0 lead, he was just getting started. Later in the inning, Ethan Flaugher drew a walk with the bases loaded to send home Ty Fredo. Another walk, this time by Jake Maske, sent Mikey Rodriguez home followed by a Nolan Book double that scored Flaugher and Bryce Rudisill. With Book and Maske standing on second and third, Grube once again sent a towering ball out to right field for a three-run bomb, his second of the inning as the lineup turned over. Nick Fleming singled to the right side of the infield, scoring Fredo to end the Mount's scoring run in the first to a 9-0 lead.

In the bottom of the second, Book returned to the plate with Flaugher on second and Maske on first. The Freshman proceeded to send a towering fly ball towards the left field foul-pole, and after much deliberation from the umpiring crew, awarded another three run home run rounding out the Mount's scoring on the day. Serigne Sarre came into relieve Andrews in the top of the third, working five innings of one-run baseball. In the final two innings of the game, Ryan Brown came in from the bullpen to pitch a two-inning appearance with one earned run and two strikeouts.

Grube had a career day, both at the plate and in the basepaths while going 3-4 with a walk, two home runs, four RBIs, and three stolen bases. Book also recorded record numbers from the plate while going 2-5 with a home run and five RBIs. And Sarre recorded 11 strikeouts on the mound, two off of his season record 13 K's that he struck in his start at Norfolk State on February 14.
