NEW ROCHELLE , N.Y. (March 15, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball lost a close 9-8 contest to Iona on Wednesday after a ten-inning thriller went the way of the Gaels in the end. With the loss, the Mount moves to a 2-3 record in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and a 8-9 overall record in their 2025 campaign.
The game started with a 1-1 tie through the first inning after a
Nolan Book sacrifice scored
Bryce Rudisill to put the Mount up on the board. Two more Mountaineer runs cam in the top of the fourth after a
Ethan Flaugher single scored
Mikey Rodriguez and
Nick Fleming. Iona went on a run after the Mount scored their runs in the fourth, putting up six in four innings. But the Mount top of the eight really got them back into the game after the Mountaineers put a five spot on the Gaels. A Paddy Hebda double down the right field line scored Fleming and Book while a
Evan Meier single scored Rodriguez. Hebda went onto steal home, bringing in another run while
Sam Grube batted in Meier on a single up the middle, scoring Meier while tying the game at 8-8. The eight inning rally was spurred by pitching in the ninth, but in the end, the Mountaineers were overwhelmed by the Gaels in extra innings, walking off the game in the bottom of the tenth.
Flaugher, Fredo, Rodriguez, and Grube all tallied two hits a piece against the Gaels while Flaugher batted in two RBI's and Grube batted in one. Hebda went 1-1 in his pinch-hit appearance while knocking in two RBIs. And Meier went 1-1 in his pinch-hit appearance, knocking in a RBI from the plate.
Serigne Sarre went 4.2 innings while striking out five and allowing only one earned run.
