Men's Lacrosse Comeback Squandered by Jaspers

Emmitsburg, Md (March 15, 2024) – The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team lost their second Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game this Saturday (Mar. 15) against Manhattan, 13-11. The Mount now sits 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC.
Freshman Carter Quested carried the Mountaineers in the contest, scoring a career high five goals. Quested only shot the ball five times and earned one assist. Brody Atkinson scored two goals in the loss, two assists, and two groundballs. Aidan Kilduff, Kevin Whitty, and Collin Thomson all added one goal to the Mount's effort. Defender Seamus McCloskey added to the game with one goal scored. That's the defensive pole's second goal of the season. Atkinson and Marcelo Carreiro led the team in assists today with two each. McCloskey led the team in groundballs, and Quested led in points in the contest. In the cage Bennett Wright tallied another game where he had more saves (15) than goals allowed (13).

Manhattans Kelly DuPree led the scoring for the Jaspers in the game. DuPree scored four goals on six shots on goal. Connor Engel followed DuPree, adding three goals of his own. Scott O'Connor was the other Jasper with multiple goals in the game, with two. Sean Shelko, Drew Hiner, Aiden Kane, and Thomas White all added one to the scoreboard in the win. Casey Klossner dominated the faceoff for Manhattan, winning 13 of the 20 taken. Goalkeeper Connor Hapward went even in the cage, saving as many shots as goals allowed in his fourth win of the season.

The Jaspers scored two goals early, before Carter Quested tallied his first goal of the game. Manhattan added one more goal before the end of the first quarter to hold the lead 3-1. The Mountaineers fired back in the second quarter though, scoring four unanswered goals to take the lead. To end the half, the Jaspers scored two goals, tying the game up going into the locker room. Brody Atkinson started the scoring for the Mount in the second half with a goal less than a minute after the starting whistle. The

Jaspers answered with two goals of their own before another Quested goal, his fourth of the game. The Mount took the lead again with another Atkinson goal in a man-up opportunity. The Jaspers tied the game up 8-8 when Kelly DuPree scored with 3:35 left in the third quarter. Manhattan took control in the fourth quarter, scoring three unanswered goals. The Jaspers would go on to score two more goals, deterring a Mount comeback and securing the win 13-11.

The Mountaineers will return home on Saturday, March 22. The Mount will take on the Marist Red Foxes at 12 p.m. at Waldron Family Stadium.
