Mount St. Mary's Outlasts Marist, 62-58, to Advance to MAAC Semifinals

Atlantic City, N.J. (March 13, 2025)—Mount St. Mary's outlasted Marist, 62-58, to advance to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference semifinals on Thursday night at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.  Dola Adebayo recorded his fourth double-double over the past five games to lead the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Jedy Cordilia and Arlandus Keyes added 11 points each in the victory.

The Mountaineers led the entire second half, but had to hold off a Marist charge to move to 20-12 on the season.  It is the Mount's first 20-win season since the 2016-17 team finished with a 20-16 record, and just the third 20-win campaign since the Mount moved to NCAA Division i in 1988-89.

Leading 27-19 at the half, the Mount saw Marist (20-10) trim the advantage to 30-28 in the opening minutes of the second stanza.  The Mount answered that with a 14-to-4 run to build a 44-32 lead with 13:55 left in the game.  Adebayo and Xavier Lipscomb hit three-pointers to start the run with Keyes adding a pair of triples to finish the streak.  The Red Foxes chipped away at the Mount's lead, making it a two-point game at 57-55 with 2:09 on the clock. The Red Foxes had two chances to tie the score, but came up short, and Lipscomb converted a pivotal traditional three-point play with 58.9 seconds left to make it 60-55.  After a Marist basket, Lipscomb hit 1-of-2 at the line to make it a four-point game.  Marist's Elijah Lewis countered by hitting 1-of-2 with 8.2 seconds remaining, but Javon Ervin sealed the win by going 1-for-2 at the line with 7.1 seconds on the clock.

Adebayo hit 9-of-12 at the foul line en route to his 19-point, 11-rebound day.  Keyes hit 3-of-4 from three-point range while finishing with 11 points and five boards.  Cordilia added 11 points and five rebounds while Lipscomb stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, seven assists and five rebounds.  Josh Pascarelli led Marist with 16 points, but he was held to 5-of-19 shooting overall and 3-of-15 from beyond the three-point arc.

The Mount held Marist to 31.3 percent shooting in the game, including 4-of-28 (.143) from three-point range.  The Mount shot 37.0 percent overall, but was 8-of-21 (.381) from beyond the arc.  The Mount held a 43-to-41 edge on the boards.

It was a strong defensive effort in the opening half as the Mount built a 27-19 lead at the break.  The Mount held Marist to 8-of-35 (.229) from the field and 2-of-15 (.133) from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes.  The Mount was marginally better, shooting 10-of-29 (.345) overall and 3-of-12 (.250) from three.
