EMMITSBURG, Md. (March 1, 2025) – Facing brutal windy conditions at Waldron Family Stadium, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse came up a goal short in a defensive struggle, falling 8-7 to the Bucknell Bison.
A trio of Mountaineers posted two goal games –
Anna Salerno,
Anna McQuay, and
Mackenzi Furlong. Three assists came along with the seven goals, with McQuay delivering one and
Madison Harmening and
Logan Cook delivering the other two. The Mount won the draw control battle, 13-5 but committed 19 turnovers in the defeat.
Battling the elements, the teams fought to a 5-5 draw at halftime. After the Mount held a 2-1 lead, the Bison would drive the score to 5-3 before scores by McQuay and Furlong pulled the contest even.
Another obstacle from Mother Nature inhibited offensive play as a bright sun began to set. Going into the sun and wind the Mount posted one score in the third – an
Anna McQuay shot with 3:11 left. Trailing 8-6 as the minutes ticked down, Salerno scored with 4:55 remaining to make it 8-7. The Mountaineers had a couple chances at the end, but turnovers and a final save from Bucknell keeper Colleen Kazanjian ensured the visitors' victory.
Mount St. Mary's heads to Virginia Tech for a game Wednesday, March 5.
