Olivia Murphy's Walk-Off Single Lifts Mount to Win over DePaul; Mount Splits Opening Day of Jacksonville Classic

Jacksonville, Fla. (February 28, 2025)—Mount St. Mary's split a pair of games on the opening day of the Jacksonville University Classic.  Olivia Murphy's walk-off single lifted the Mount to a 2-1 victory over DePaul in eight innings in the opening game.  The Mount fell to host Jacksonville, 8-0, in the second game.

MOUNT ST. MARY'S 2, DePAUL 1
Olivia Murphy's walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Mount to a 2-1 victory over the Blue Demons.  Murphy also starred in the circle, tossing a complete game to pick up her first win of the season.

DePaul (7-7) struck for the game's first run in the top of the first inning.  The Mount had a pair of hits and a walk in the bottom of the frame, but did not score.

The Mountaineers evened the score with a run in the bottom of the second inning.  Murphy and Tristan Koerner walked while Gina Del Giorno reached on an error to load the bases.  Avery Dinges followed with a base hit to plate pinch runner Korri Brown to tie the score at 1-1.

Mount St. Mary's threatened to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases with one out.  Taylor Williams started the rally with a bunt single with Laurenne Gallagher and Brianna Manni posting base hits to fill the bases with Mountaineers.  That forced DePaul to bring in Ava Gusel in relief of starting pitcher Bella Nigey.  Gusel was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout and a groundout.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Gallagher was placed on second to begin the inning.    She moved to third on an Emily Felice groundout, setting the table for Murphy, who singled to bring home the winning run.

Gallagher, Manni and Williams each had two hits to pace the Mount offense in the game.  Murphy scatted six hits while allowing the one run in eighth innings of work.

JACKSONVILLE 8, MOUNT ST. MARY'S 0
