FAIRFIELD, Conn. (February 28, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's basketball was defeated on the road against Fairfield by a score of 69-62, ending a four-game win streak. With this loss, the Mount falls to 17-11 with a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record of 10-7 with three conference games left in the regular season.
The Mount found themselves down early, remaining scoreless within the first two minutes as Fairfield went on an 8-0 run. A three from
Dallas Hobbs opened the scoring for the Mountaineers with seventeenth minutes left in the first half followed by another three from
Carmelo Pacheco to cut the score to 10-6 entering with sixteen minutes left.
Scoring alternated for the rest of the half, but three-pointers from
Arlandus Keyes and
Xavier Lipscomb to add to the Mount's score. Hobbs laid the ball up to briefly tie the game 24-24 for the Mount with five minutes left again, but a free throw from Fairfield's Jamie Bergens gave the Stags a lead once more.
Coming out of the halftime intermission, the Mountaineers jumped to a brief three-point lead thanks to another three-pointer from Pacheco. Scoring then alternated for the next four minutes as both teams exchanged long-shots for maximums and a poster-dunk from
Dola Adebayo gave the Mount a 41-40 lead in the second half with seventeen minutes left in the game.
A three-pointer from
Patrick Haigh cut the lead to two as the Mount found themselves down 47-45 in the with fourteen minutes left, but another Stags possession yielded more points for the home team as the lead began to grow. Another three from Hobbs cut the lead to five points as Fairfield found themselves still up 61-56. A layup from
Jedy Cordilia made it close as the Dutchman cut the score down to 62-60 with three minutes remaining in the game, but a succession Fairfield scores finally downed the Mountaineers in the final two minutes.
Hobbs led the way on the offense, going 6-8 from the field with 15 points, three assists, and three defensive rebounds. Adebayo led the way in transition with 13 total rebounds as well as in the paint with 12 points. Pacheco went 4-8 from beyond the three-point arc, putting up 12 points for the Mountaineers in the game. And Cordilla put six points past the Stags with five defensive rebounds and two assists. Lipscomb notched five assists and five defensive rebounds as well as two three pointers to add to the scoring.
