PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (February 23, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball took the third and final game of their three game series against Saint Joseph's with a 6-3 win against the Hawks in Philadelphia on Sunday. With their away win and series win in the bag, the Mountaineers move to a 5-1 record in their 2025 spring campaign.
The Mount got on the board early in the second inning when a double steal led off by
Mateo Zeppieri taking second base spurred on
Nolan Book to steal home for the game's first run. A hawks run in the bottom of the second spurred the Mountaineers to regain the lead, which they did later in the top of the third when
Sam Grube single scored
Stephen Katch and a double by Book hit down the right field line scored Try Fredo. Saint Joseph tied the game up 3-3 in the bottom of the third, but through two shutout innings thrown by the Mount hurlers, the visitors were able to regain the lead in the later innings. A wild pitch from Micah Wells scored Grube and a
Nick Fleming single scored
Jake Maske in the eighth. Grube went onto bat in Fleming the next at-bat, ensuring the Mountaineers comfortable lead and their eventual fifth win on the season.
Grube led the day for the Mountaineers from the plate, going 3-5 with two RBIs against Saint Joseph's. Book went 1-3 at the plate with an RBI and a walk and Fleming went 1-1 in his pinch-hit appearance with one RBI in his only at-bat of the game.
Eli DeRossi pitched 4.0 innings with three hits and three strikeouts to start the game.
Maximus McCrary was awarded with his first win of the year for his 5.0 innings of work while striking out one batter and keeping the Hawks out of the hit column.
