EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 22, 2025) – Trying to rally from a halftime deficit, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse got within two goals of the Delaware Blue Hens. But the visitors were able to fend off the effort and take the contest, 12-9, Saturday at Waldron Family Stadium.
Seven players found the back of the net for the Mountaineers, with
Anna McQuay and
Mackenzi Furlong scoring twice. Salerno earned a goal to maintain her team lead, now possessing eight for the season. Furlong tacked on an assist as well, earning a dime along with
Brooke Molchanoff.
Delaney McDaniel led the charge for Delaware with five points, tabulating three goals and a pair of assists.
The visiting Blue Hens built the lead as high as six, going up 10-4 with 10:15 left in the third quarter. McQuay fueled the comeback for the Mountaineers, scoring a pair of unassisted shots to bring it to 10-6. That would be the score entering the fourth quarter, and after Delaware posted a goal, the Mount made a second attempt to seize the contest. Furlong struck first, followed by Salerno.
Brooke Molchanoff came through on a free position to foster hope at the 11-9 mark with 6:37 to go. But Delaware's defense held firm, and a late tally from the Hens sealed the contest.
On Wednesday (Feb. 26), Mount St. Mary's travels to Robert Morris. The game's first draw is at 1 p.m.
