Day One Split Against Saint Joseph’s Spurred On by Rudisill Walk-Off in Game One

EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 22, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball split the first two games in their series against Saint Joseph by winning the first game 10-7 off the back of a three-run walk off home run by Bryce Rudisill but losing out in game two by a score of 7-0. After today's play, the Mountaineers moved to a 4-1 record while Saint Joseph's added in both columns, ending the day with a 2-4 record.

With a quiet first inning over, the second played out to a 2-1 lead for the Hawks as Evan Meier's double scored Mateo Zeppieri to put the Mount on the board. Two more runs came in the fourth and fifth inning, but by the seventh inning stretch, the Mount found themselves down 6-3. One more Saint Joseph run came in the top of the ninth, tampering the Mount down by a score of 7-3. The rally in the ninth began with a two-run home run by Zeppieri. Sam Grube batted Nick Fleming in followed by a single from Ty Fredo, scoring Jake Maske to tie up the ball game. With two outs on the board, Bryce Rudisill sent a ball towering out to right, barely slipping over the fence to send the dugout into wonderland while completing a seven-run comeback in the inning.

Zeppieri led the day with two home runs and three RBI, going 3-4 with a double. Rudisill's late strike gave the red shirt freshman a three RBI day while 1-5. And Sam Grube went 1-4 with an RBI single and a walk. A combination of innings from JB Manarchuck and Josh Halcisak played out to 10 strikeouts in eight innings of work. Dom Capperella came into pitch two hit, one run ninth inning, holding the Hawks long enough to earn his first win on the year.
