NORFOLK, Va. (February 15, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's baseball completed the sweep against Norfolk State today as the Mountaineers found themselves victorious in a 10-5 win over the Spartans. The win in Norfolk moves the Mountaineers to a 3-0 start on the season, outscoring Norfolk State 30-5 across the series.
The Mountaineers and the Spartans exchanged offensive opening bouts early, with 1-1 innings being played out in the First and Second. But a solo homerun by
Ty Fredo sent out over the left field wall finally gave the Mount a three run lead. Four runs came across the plate in the fourth, with
Sam Grube batting in
Kyle Cincinnati and
Evan Meier as well.
Alex Mendes went onto score on a throwing error in the eight as well as Grube scoring on a wild pitch later in the inning. And Cincinnati scored again in the top of the ninth off a Mendes single to left to bring in the final run of the day.
Both Mendes and Fredo went 2-4 on the day, with the later batting in two runners. Fredo added onto his weekend offensive tally with a RBI off of his solo shot in the third.
Jakob Foster earned his first win of the year while pitching 5.0 innings with three walks and three strikeouts.
Jake Andrews came in for relief, pitching 2.0 with three strikeouts to his name. And max McCrary came in for the final two innings of the game, notching four strikeouts in seven batters faced.

The Mountaineers open their 2025 home campaign next weekend at E.T. Straw Family Stadium with a two-game matchup against Saint Joseph's on February 21 and 22. The team travels to Philadelphia on February 23 to play the Hawks away for the third game of the series.
