EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 13, 2025) – Five different Mount St. Mary's women's basketball players posted double figures in the points column and the defense collected 14 steals off 28 turnovers as the team defeated Niagara, 75-54, Thursday at Knott Arena. The squad improves to 11-11 (9-4 MAAC) this year, and has won eight of the last nine.
Leading the charge on offense was
Jo Raflo with 17 points, followed by
Gabrielle Kennerly with 13 points. Both tied for a game-high seven rebounds as well.
Madison Ruff hit 12 points to cross double figures for the fifth time in her rookie season, with
Anna LeMaster chipping in 11.
Rosa Revueltas Pareja added 10 points for a season high.
Ruff had four of the 14 steals, which ties a career best.
Tessa Engelman collected three blocks, accounting for half the team's total.
Niagara received 14 points and seven rebounds from Safiatu Kolliegbo. The Purple Eagles fall to 1-21 (0-14 MAAC).
A solid start and finish proved the difference. LeMaster hit a layup to secure a double-digit lead for the home side five minutes and change into the contest. Up 19-9 after the first quarter, the Mountaineers and Purple Eagles played even until the final frame. Consistent on the offensive end throughout, Mount St. Mary's enlisted tenacious defense to limit Niagara to seven points for the fourth. They ascended to a 20 point margin in the closing minutes and took the game in wire-to-wire fashion.
Saturday (Feb. 15) sees the Mountaineers host Canisius for a 2 p.m. game. Prior to the tip, the team will honor its seniors – Raflo, LeMaster, Revueltas Pareja, and
Jaedyn Jamison.
