Emmitsburg, Md (February 11, 2025) – The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team fell to St. Bonaventure in overtime on Saturday (Feb. 11), 9-8.
The Mount offense started off strong with four unanswered goals coming from
Brody Atkinson hitting two, and
Collin Thomson and
Carter Quested hitting one each. The Mount's defense was able to control the attack of the Bonnies, only allowing one goal on seven shots. In this quarter,
Bennett Wright tallied six of his 13 total saves. This has been Wright's second straight game with more saves (13) than goals allowed (9).
The second quarter showed St. Bonaventure's retaliation, with four goals scored compared to Mount's one scored by junior
Will McKay, his first of the season. This was also Wright's busiest quarter with 19 shots being fired off by the Bonnies. The team's headed to the locker room in a tie, 4-4.
Coming out of halftime, the only goal scored in the third quarter came with 9:11 left on the clock from St. Bonaventure. The goal came on a man-up opportunity when Mount's
Isaac Prantera was sent to the box for an unnecessary roughness call for one minute. The Mount was called twice on penalties, both ending in a St. Bonaventure goal. At the end of the third quarter the Bonnies were up, 5-4.
The Mount started the fourth quarter off with a goal from
Connor Barrett with less than two minutes off the clock. St. Bonaventure took the lead right back, with a Jake Kucinski goal on their second man-up opportunity of the contest. Mount's
Jack Smith decided to take matters into his own hands and scored two back-to-back goals to give the Mountaineers the lead with three minutes left. With 2:12 left on the clock, St. Bonaventure tied the game to send it to overtime.
St. Bonaventure won the opening faceoff of overtime and called timeout to stop the clock. Less than a minute into the final quarter the Bonnies Drew Kenney netted the game winner with a final score, 9-8.
