EMMITSBURG, Md. (February 1, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's women's basketball earned its longest win streak since 2021 with a wire-to-wire victory against the Saint Peter's Peacocks. The win gets Mount sole possession of third place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
Jo Raflo posted her second double-double of the season and third of her career with a 20-point, 12 rebound effort.
Anna LeMaster finished with 19 and
Gabrielle Kennerly finished with 16 to secure double figures.
Giana Hoddinott led with four of 14 assists, and
Tessa Engelman rejected the Mount's lone blocks.
Mount St. Mary's now stands at 10-10 overall and 8-3 in the MAAC. The last occurrence of a win streak this long was nine games from January 29-March 1, 2021. All those wins came against Northeast Conference opponents.
Saint Peter's received a double-double of 26 points and 18 rebounds from Fatmata Janneh. De'Naya Rippey also procured a 10-point game. The Peacocks are now 6-13 (4-6 MAAC) this year.
Buckets by Raflo, Kennerly, and LeMaster forced a quick timeout from Saint Peter's. The run would extend to 10-0 on a Hoddinott layup before the Peacocks earned their first points. Mount got a second burst of energy at the end of the first quarter, with triples by LeMaster,
Heather Middleton, and Kennerly – the latter of which banked in from the logo. Most of the second quarter was played at an even pace, but the Mountaineers brought the lead as high as 19 on free throws by Nyodie Geurard.
With the margin at 16 points for halftime, the visiting Peacocks dug in and worked their way back into the game with 23 points in the third period. Rippey and Janneh were the offensive catalysts to put the contest back to single digits, 60-53, as the game headed into the fourth quarter.
The Mountaineers made their ultimate push towards victory midway in the final frame. Hoddinott drilled a three-pointer, with LeMaster following with one of her own. The defense held the Peacocks scoreless the rest of the game, allowing for a 12-0 run to finish the contest.
The game coinceded with the Mount's celebration of National Girls & Women in Sports Day. An all-female scorer's table crew and broadcast talent team staffed the game.
Thursday (Feb. 6) sees the Mountaineers travel to Iona to face the Gaels. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. from New Rochelle.
