Charlotte, NC (February 1, 2025) - The Mount St. Mary's men's lacrosse team starts their season with a win, defeating Queens 14-9.

Mount St. Mary's controlled most of this game, only being outscored in the first quarter of the game 2-3.  Mount sophomore Brody Atkinson claims both opening goals for the Mountaineers with one from an assist by John Miller IV. This would only be the beginning of the scoring from Atkinson, as he added four more goals to finish his day with six goals on 14 shots.

Carter Quested added to the Mount goal tally with three goals on eight shots fired. Quested added two groundballs and one caused turnover to his stat sheet for the contest.  John Miller IV stepped up on offense for the Mount, with two goals on five shots and three assists to give his teammates opportunities. Jack Smith, Marcelo Carreiro, and Connor Barrett got involved in the scoring column with each player scoring a goal.

Freshman faceoff specialist Garrett Conley carried the weight for the Mount. Conley won nine of the 18 face-offs taken. Jaden Saysanam took on the Royals at the faceoff seven times winning three of them for the Mount.

On the defensive end, the Mount was able to cause six turnovers with Nate Committee causing two himself.  The Mount was able to take advantage of these turnovers and grabbed 20 groundballs during the game.

Sophomore goalkeeper Bennett Wright took to the cage for the sixth game of his career for the Mount. Wright faced 49 shots, with 20 being on goal. The goalie held a .550 save percentage saving 11 of the 20 on goal.

The team's next competition will be the home opener as the Mountaineers take on the Long Island University Sharks. The game will be played on Saturday February 8 at 12 PM at Waldron Family stadium.
