Kennerly Goes for 30 Points as Mount Women’s Basketball Topples Iona

EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 21, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's redshirt sophomore Gabrielle Kennerly registered her first-ever collegiate 30 point game as the Mountaineers defeated Iona, 65-55, Sunday at Knott Arena.

Kennerly went 11-for-18 from the field with seven freebies at the charity stripe. The point total and field goal count are career highs, and the foul shots match her career best. Berlynn Carlson joined Kennerly in double figures with 10 points, adding nine rebounds to come within one board of a double-double. Carlson's rebounding total was one of three career marks for boards, along with game-leader Jaedyn Jamison with 12 and Wesleigh Ferguson's 10. Jamison added four blocks for another top mark.

The Mount is now 6-5 with a 2-0 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.

Iona was led by Isabellah Middleton with a double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds. The Gaels fall to 7-5 (0-2 MAAC).

HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
  • Kennerly established the Mount's presence early by scoring the Mount's first seven points. Carlson and Erin Edmonds earned buckets, and Alana Powell added a foul shot to help the home side storm out to a 12-0 run.
  • Zoey Ward scored Iona's first points at the 4:05 mark of the opening frame. That was the spark the Gaels needed to dig into the margin. Mount led 18-10 after the first quarter.
  • Both defenses began to clamp down as the game approached halftime, but Kennerly scored another six points to give the Mountaineers a 28-22 lead at the break.
  • Iona made a push in the third quarter from nine points down. Ella Fajardo scored a driving layup with 5:26 on the clock to level the score at 33.
  • Late baskets by Edmonds and Carlson granted the Mount its lead back to a 41-38 edge entering the fourth quarter.
  • Kennerly and Jamison provided the x-factors in the last 10 minutes, combining for 16 points as the Mount outpaced Iona 24-17. A foul shot by Kennerly with 22 seconds left gave her 30 points.

NOTEWORTHY ITEMS
  • Kennerly's 30-point effort makes her the 17th player and 37th occurrence in program history of a Mountaineer posting 30 or more. The last player to do so was Jo Raflo on January 6, 2024 against Niagara.
  • Mount St. Mary's is one of five teams at the time of publication with a 2-0 start in the first weekend of MAAC play. Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Siena, and Saint Peter's also started 2-0.
  • The victory is the second all-time for the Mount against Iona, bringing the record to 2-5 in favor of the Gaels.
