Mountaineers Make Early Statement in MAAC Opening Win Over Marist

EMMITSBURG, Md. (December 19, 2025) – Showcasing their prowess early on, Mount St. Mary's women's basketball gathered a comfortable lead over Marist – more than enough to withstand a late Red Foxes charge to win 66-59.
 
The victory gives the Mount their first-ever 1-0 start in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play.
 
Gabrielle Kennerly tallied a season-high 23 points, going 9-for-13 from the floor. Teodora Ivanovic posted a career-high 10 off the bench in 15 minutes of gametime. Jaedyn Jamison led on the boards with nine rebounds, and Berlynn Carlson provided some presence in the post with nine points and eight rebounds.
 
 
HOW THE GAME UNFOLDED
  • The game went wire-to-wire for the Mountaineers, who jumped out to a 12-3 advantage. Kennerly supplied eight points, aided by buckets from Carlson and Jamison.
  • Marist's closest deficit prior to the end of the game was three points after a Danielle Williamsen jumper with 2:56 left in the first quarter.
  • Mount finished the first frame with a 9-0 run capped by five Ivanovic points.
  • The edge steadily rose to 15 points by halftime, with the Mount up 39-24.
  • A Kennerly triple with 6:14 left in the third quarter gave the Mountaineers their largest lead of 23, 51-28.
  • Lenora Nkangwen punctuated the night with her first career minutes and bucket, rounding out the Mount's effort on offense.
NOTEWORTHY ITEMS
  • Mount St. Mary's improves to 20-6 all-time against Marist. The win also marks the first against the Red Foxes on the Knott Arena floor since 1997.
  • For the second straight, 10 players contributed to the scoring. 10 players also notched at least one rebound.
  • Erin Edmonds earned a career high for rebounds (5) and blocks (2).

This Sunday (Dec. 21), the Mount looks to go to 2-0 in the MAAC with a matinee contest versus Iona. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
