EMMITSBURG, Md. (October 4, 2025) – Mount St. Mary's men's soccer defense was tested throughout Saturday's contest at Sacred Heart. The Mountaineers held firm for 80 minutes, but the Pioneers ultimately broke through to secure a 1-0 victory.
Goalkeeper
Julian Marcos once again rose to the occasion, recording seven saves. The defensive unit—
Christian Kyriacou,
Maciej Majcherczyk,
Maks Czyz,
Antoine DeCoteau, along with substitute
Evan Gaines—was effective in limiting Sacred Heart's offensive threat, preventing more than a dozen shots from reaching the target.
Midfielder Danny Istambouli netted the game-winner for Sacred Heart, receiving a pass from Matthew Sarro to finally break through the Mount's defensive line. It was Istambouli's second goal of the season.
Mount St. Mary's now stands at 1-5-4 overall and 1-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Sacred Heart improves to 5-3-2 overall and remains perfect in the MAAC at 4-0.
The Mountaineers return to Emmitsburg on Saturday, Oct. 11, to host Manhattan at Waldron Family Stadium.
