Washington, D.C. (January 31, 2025)--Mount St. Mary's women's tennis opened the spring season with a 4-0 loss at George Washington on Friday afternoon.
The Colonials (2-0) won all three matches in doubles play to open the match by securing the doubles point.Â
Venus Tang and
Bella Pescatore were edged at No. 1 doubles, 7-5, by Karen Verduzco and Vaida Matuseviciute.Â
Valentine Mudry and
Emma Kaden fell at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, while
Margherita Trolese and
Amari O'Brien fell at the No. 2 spot.
Trolese played at No. 1 singles, falling 6-1, 6-3, to Victoria Sasinka while Pescatore lost to Verduzco, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. Kaden was downed at No. 6 singles by Alejandra Ramirez. O'Brien held a 6-4, 2-1 lead at No. 3 singles with her match being unfinished when the Colonials clinched the win. Tang was in a tight match at No. 2 singles, falling 6-3 in the opening set while being tied, 4-4, in the second set before play was stopped.
The Mount plays at Georgetown on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
