New York, N.Y. (January 10, 2025)—Xavier Lipscomb came through in the big moments down the stretch to lead Mount St. Mary's past Manhattan, 75-66, on Friday night at Draddy Gymnasium. The Mountaineers improve to 10-5 overall and 3-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with the victory.
Trailing 59-58 with eight minutes remaining, the Mount scored the next seven points to take a six-point lead.
Jedy Cordilia's putback gave the Mount the lead, and
Carmelo Pacheco drained a three-pointer in transition to make it 63-59.
Terrell Ard Jr. capped the run with a basket in the lane to make it 65-59 with 6:36 left in the game.
The Jaspers fought back as Will Sydnor scored five consecutive points to make it a one-point game, 65-64, with 4:35 on the clock. Lipscomb then provided the first of his clutch late moments by draining a three-pointer for a 68-64 advantage. The score remained there for the next two minutes before Lipscomb hit a runner in the lane to make it 70-64 with 1:31 remaining. After a Manhattan basket, the Mount hit 5-of-6 from the line, the final four by Pacheco, over the final 44 seconds to salt away the victory.
Ard Jr. paced the Mount with 16 points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists off the bench while Adebayo added a pair of blocks. Lipscomb had a solid line with 11 points, six assists and zero turnovers in 36 minutes of action. Pacheco finished with nine points with freshman Abdou Khadre Kebe chipping in eight.
Jedy Cordilia had seven points, eight boards and a pair of blocks in the win as well. Sydnor led all scorers with 27 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Manhattan held a narrow 34-33 lead at the break in an evenly played first half. The Jaspers went on a 9-to-1 run to take its biggest lead of the half at 29-20. The Mount responded with an 11-to-2 run to even the score at 31-31. A pair of Adebayo free throws started the run with a Cordilia bucket making it a five-point game. After a Manhattan basket, Lipscomb drained a three-pointer and Cordilia had a traditional three-point play to make it a one-point game. Lipscomb hit 1-of-2 at the line to even the score.
Manhattan's Devin Dinkins had a traditional three-point play of his own to put the Jaspers up three before Ard Jr. made it 34-33 at the break with a putback basket.
The Mount shot 13-of-29 (.448) from the field and just 2-of-10 (.200) from beyond the arc in the opening half. Manhattan shot 41.7 percent (15-of-36) and was 3-of-16 (.188) from three-point range.
The Jaspers took advantage of 10 offensive rebounds for a 12-to-5 edge on second-chance points in the first half.
GAME NOTES:
- Mount St. Mary's finished the game with 22 assists and seven turnovers.The seven turnovers are the second-fewest in a game this season.
- Manhattan now leads the all-time series, 12-9.
- Ard Jr. matched his season high with four steals.
- The Mount outscored Manhattan, 16-to-2, on points off turnovers.
