EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 6, 2024) – A game that seemed destined to produce a scoreless draw broke away from Mount St. Mary's men's soccer in the final stretch. La Salle delivered a goal in the 81
st minute to take the match 1-0.
The Explorers posted more shots than the Mountaineers, garnering a 21-13 advantage.
Julian Marcos was put to the test in goal and finished the contest with five saves.
Events broke the way of La Salle with less than 10 minutes to go. Andrew Rosenbaum headed the ball past a lunging Marcos, sending the shot into the lower right corner of the net.
Sending every man forward to try and equalize, the Mount received an excellent chance from
Luciano Schiaffini. His shot went toward the upper right corner, but La Salle netminder Valentin Kneis managed to corral the ball for the save.
Schiaffini landed two shots on goal, with
Junee Lee and
Abou Cherif adding one each.
Now 0-3-1, the Mount looks to the Delaware Blue Hens in a Tuesday night road contest. Kickoff is 7 p.m. from Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium in Newark.
