Clean Sheet, Pivotal Goals Grant Mount Victory Over Saint Francis

EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 4, 2024) – A sensational effort from the Mount St. Mary's women's soccer defensive unit, combined with two crucial tallies on offense, mobilized the team to a 2-0 win over the Saint Francis University Red Flash Wednesday night at Waldron Family Stadium.

With the victory, the Mount snapped a two-game slide and improved to 3-2 this season.

Facing 18 Red Flash shots, keeper Adelaide Paredes and the team's back line shunned away every chance. Paredes finished the contest with seven, one shy of a career best. Tested early and often, she recorded a save as early as the sixth minute and as late as the 86th minute.

On the offensive end of the ball, Sydoney Clarke got the Mount's first goal. Taking control of the ball with a healthy distance to go, she executed excellent footwork to draw out the SFU keeper before depositing the shot in the lower left-hand corner. Clarke extended her team leading goal count to three.

The Mountaineers doubled their advantage in the 58th minute as Nicole Wilson and Ines Gama Ferreira tag teamed a corner cross into the box, where Erin Antone awaited with a header. Antone delivered a strike for the second time this year.

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play is next for the Mountaineers as they travel up to New York for a contest with Niagara. The noon Saturday (Sept. 7) kickoff serves as a rematch of the conference quarterfinal from last season.
