Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Opening Night Effort for Men’s Soccer Spoiled by Late Binghamton Goal

EMMITSBURG, Md. (August 22, 2024) – As a new team with many changes looking to build a cohesive unit, Mount St. Mary's men's soccer battled in valiant fashion against a tough Binghamton squad. A contest that appeared destined to net the Mount a point turned to the Bearcats via an 83rd minute goal from Luke Yates off a corner kick.

The play of goalkeeper Julian Marcos was instrumental in giving the Mountaineers a chance throughout, making several brilliant saves along the way. He completed his first collegiate game with five saves.

As an offensive unit, the Mount had six shots with a pair on target. The team did find the back of the net once as Faqir Raza found Abou Cherif in the second half, but the goal was waved off as a referee deemed to play to be offside. Junee Lee and Sherwin Chen delivered the on-target shots that stood in the box score.

Entering the contest with a rejuvenated roster, five newcomers and six returners made up the Mount's starting lineup. In total, 10 players made their Mountaineer debuts in the match.

Game two is at Waldron Family Stadium Sunday (Aug. 25), when the Mount welcomes Robert Morris. The 4 p.m. kickoff is the second in a doubleheader, succeeding the women's soccer game versus NJIT at noon.
