EMMITSBURG, Md. (July 8, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse head coach
Lauren Skellchock has signed a contract extension, as announced by Director of Athletics Brad Davis.
Skellchock stands as the most decorated coach in the 30-plus year history of Mountaineers women's lacrosse, building a record of 88-76 over 10 seasons. This includes four seasons of double digit wins and a pair with 15 or more, along with Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships in 2021 and 2022. This past year, the team finished on a high note, garnering a winning record in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play and reaching the semifinals of the conference tournament, marking the program's first postseason victory since joining the MAAC.
"Lo is one of the top women's lacrosse coaches in the country," said Davis. "The Mount is fortunate to have someone who has the passion, knowledge, and skills that Lo has. Our women's lacrosse program has been one of our top programs on and off the field under Lo's leadership, and I look forward to seeing even more success from the program in the future."
Recognized three times as the NEC Coach of the Year (2018, 2019, 2022), Skellchock has guided eight players to win major conference awards. This includes four Defensive Player of the Year honorees (Melissa Cox, Jillian Petito, and twice Kaitlyn Ridenour), two Offensive Players of the Year (Jordan Butler, Kate Kinsella), 2022 Midfielder of the Year Zoe Hurlburt, and two Rookies of the Year - Nicole Lantuh in 2015 and Jordan Groover in 2019. Across her tenure, 49 women's lacrosse student-athletes earned All-Conference and All-Rookie honors.
"I am honored to be the head women's lacrosse coach at Mount St. Mary's." Skellchock said. "Thank you to Athletic Director Brad Davis and former President Dr. Tim Trainor for trusting me to lead this program. What a gift these 10 years have been: the Mount is a special place and I am surrounded by passionate student-athletes that want to succeed on the field, in the classroom, and in life. I am excited for the future ahead and hope to continue to make our Mount family and entire community proud."
Alongside on-field accolades, Skellchock's players also make consistent progress in the classroom. The team delivers a solid showing for both the individual Academic Honor Roll and Academic Honor Squad presented by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association annually.
In addition to her duties at the Mount, Skellchock coaches for her country, working with USA Lacrosse as part of their National Team Development Program.
Information on the 2025 season will be made available in the coming months.
