Mountaineers Continue Hot Streak with Blowout Win over Saint Peter’s

EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 17th, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's won by double digits this evening with a 23-8 win over Saint Peter's. This marks wins in nine of the last 11 conference games while winning 12 of the last 16 games overall. A remarkable stat to achieve as we go down the stretch of the regular season, this is the first time in over 20 years the Mount has had double digit innings in consecutive games. Revamping history as this is only the 11th time in program history of recording a 20-run game post division-I era (1989). The Mountaineers last scored 20+ runs against Merrimack last season in a 22-3 win.

The Mountaineers erupted for 10 runs to open the game and send their message to the Peacocks. Scott Seeker went 3-3 at the plate and opened the scoring with an RBI double through the right-side scoring Evan Smith. A few batters later David Stirpe striped a base clearing double to center field scoring three runs. A ground out forced a run across the plate followed by Evan Smith's triple to center field scoring two more to take a seven-run lead. Smith remained active with a steal home, followed by a two RBI Efrain Correa, Jr. double to right field to cap the inning, 10-0.

The Mountaineers added four more in the next frame to take a thirteen-run lead. After a scoreless third inning the Mount took back to the bats to rattle off five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Seeker opened the scoring with an RBI triple to center field followed by an RBI single by Tyler Long. Following a Correa, Jr. double, Jayson Kramer roped an RBI single to left field to score Long. Shane Wockley capped the inning with a two RBI double to right field to give his team a 19-1 lead.

The Peacocks exchanged a run in the bottom of the frame, yet the Mount didn't let up as they added three more runs in the top of the fifth inning to go ahead, 22-2. Saint Peter's added three late runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit, 22-5. The Peacocks added three more in the bottom of the eighth inning in which the Mount responded with a run in the top of the ninth to win tonight's game by a 15-run margin. Tommy Moore earned his second win of the season and as a Mountaineer after throwing five innings, three of which were scoreless.
