PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (April 24th, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's goes back-to-back at Maryland Eastern Shore winning the first game 19-1 and game two 9-5. The Mountaineers posted 18 hits in game one as
Evan Smith cranked two home runs while
Scott Seeker hit his ninth with a grand slam.
TJ Curley pitched five scoreless innings, allowed just three hits while fanning four batters to earn the first win of his collegiate career as a Mountaineer.
JB Manarchuck opened game two to pitch five innings and earn his first win of the season.
GAME ONE:
The Mount was clicking on all cylinders in the blowout win as they went up 19-0 before allowing the Hawks a run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Seeker went 2-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs,
JT Landwehr went 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Shane Wockley went 3-5 with two runs and an RBI while
Evan Smith went 2-4 with two home runs.
Scoring bunches in the fifth and the seventh led to the blowout. Wockley opened the scoring with a single through the right side, scoring
Jayson Kramer. Seeker followed with a grand slam scoring
Tyler Long, Smith, and Wockley.
JT Landwehr scored on a squeeze to add six runs to the board, 10-0.
Two runs in the sixth brought the Mount to the final inning with a cushioned lead. Three singles, a double, and a Smith homerun to cap the inning gave the Mount a 19-0 lead heading into the bottom of the frame. A UMES homer in the seventh inning cut the chances of a shutout, yet, the Mountaineers won in dominant fashion, 19-1.
GAME TWO:
The Mount kept the offense going in the second game with nine runs and six hits. They opened the game with a run after
David Stirpe drew a walk to score Landwehr.
UMES found a response with three runs in the bottom of the frame after a fielding error scored one and a homer over left center scored two to take their first lead of the afternoon, 3-1.
Quiet middle innings brought us to the top of the fifth trailing 4-1. The Mountaineers scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to a run. Seeker scored on a ground-out to the first basemen while Landwehr scored on a Kramer sac-fly.
Leaving the bottom of the frame scoreless, Mount St. Mary's erupted for six runs in the top of the sixth inning.
Evan Meier started the scoring after reaching pay dirt on a throwing error by the third basemen. Seeker and Wockley drove four runs in with consecutive doubles through the left side, scoring Smith,
Efrain Correa, Jr., Seeker, and Long. Kramer capped the inning with a sac-bunt to score Landwehr to take a four-run lead.
A lone homer from the Hawks wasn't enough for a late-game comeback as the Mount stole game two 9-5.
