Baseball Wins Dominant Homestand Over Navy Midshipmen

EMMITSBURG, Md, (April 23rd, 2024) – Mount St. Mary's never trailed in this midweek match against the Midshipmen, winning tonight's game 10-6. The Mountaineers scored in every inning but two while tallying 12 hits. Scott Seeker, a player who has found his stride, went 3-3 at the plate with two home runs.

Freshman Jakob Foster opened the game for the Mount to pitch four strong innings posting five strikeouts to put his team in a position to win, earning the first win of his collegiate career as a Mountaineer. Jackson Snyder threw three scoreless innings after being plugged in in the top of the sixth inning, allowing only two hits with four punch outs.

Seeker opened the scoring in the top of the first after roping a double to center field to score Tyler Long. Jayson Kramer followed with a single in the gap of left center to score Seeker.

A scoreless top of the second brought the Mount to the bottom of the frame with a two-run lead. A Seeker sac-fly and a JT Landwehr double edged down the left field line gave the Mount two more to go ahead 4-0.

The Midshipmen were able to score a run in the third to break the early drought with an RBI single up the middle.

In the bottom of the frame, David Stirpe came to the plate to knock a two-run homer over center field, his first of the season, scoring Kramer, 6-1.

Navy responded with two runs in the top of the fourth inning off a solo home run and an error in the field.

Evan Meier added to the Mount's lead with an RBI double to right center scoring Stirpe, Meier then stole third and advanced home on a throwing error to go ahead, 8-3.

Quiet seventh and eighth innings for Navy gave the Mount an opportunity to cushion their lead and seal the game. Shane Wockley hit a bomb over right field to score a run in the seventh while Seeker hit a deep shot over centerfield's fence to take a five-run lead, 10-5.

After loading the bags and scoring a run in the ninth, Stirpe made an astonishing athletic play at third after catching a laser line drive and turning to second for a double play to end the game.
