Baseball Drops Game Two to Fairfield to Force Rubber Match

EMMITBSURG, Md. (April 20th, 2024) – After an eight-run burst out of Fairfield in the first inning the Mount were stuck trying to dig themselves out the rest of the way, eventually dropping this afternoon's contest, 24-13.

Fairfield took command of the game in the first inning after scoring eight runs on four home runs, three being consecutive to one another, and four additional hits.

Scott Seeker opened his game with a solo homer over deep center field to combat the eruption in the top of the frame. Two more runs from the stags stacked the lead, 10-1. The Mountaineers responded with four runs in the third inning after JT Landwehr hit an RBI infield single to score Braxton. Shane Wockley stepped to the plate and hung a three-run moon shot over the scoreboard to cut the deficit to five runs.

Exchanging runs in the fourth inning brough us to the fifth trailing, 11-6.

Fairfield regained momentum in the fifth and sixth innings after scoring 11 runs between the two.

The Mountaineers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth through Long, Seeker, and Evan Smith RBIs. After a quiet seventh inning, the Mount scored four in the bottom of the eighth. Shane Wockley started it off with his second homer of the day on a two-run shot over right field to score JT Landwehr. Braden Ramirez (2-3 at the plate) followed with a two-run bomb over right center scoring Ty Stecko, his first of the season and as a Mountaineer.
