EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 13, 2024) – Facing a 7-3 deficit, Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse battled all the way back to 7-6. Winning a crucial draw under 10 seconds, the Mount raced down field to find
Anna Salerno for the game-tying shot. Siena's Sabrina Krasner came up with the save, preserving the win for the Saints and ending the Mountaineers' comeback.
Goal scoring was a team effort for the Mount on Saturday, with six different players posting one goal each.
Mackenzi Furlong supplied two assists for three points to lead the team.
Christina Haspert added an assist as well and contributed her score with eight seconds left on the clock to set up the equalizing chance. Haspert and
Madison Harmening each supplemented their line scores with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Siena received three points from Grace Dobrzynski off two goals and an assist. Kelly Logue scored twice for the Saints.
The teams fought to a 3-2 halftime score in a defensive struggle. Trailing 2-0, the Mount rallied for the tie on goals by Furlong and
Anna McQuay. Dobrzynski scored with 1:01 left in the half to put the Saints up at the break. Making their claim in the third, Siena struck four times to attain a 7-3 advantage.
Logan Cook stemmed the tide with a goal at the 12:38 mark.
Both offenses were quiet for the first 10 minutes of the final frame before the Mountaineers made their move. Harmening found the back of the net with 4:08 to play, leaving the Mount to get three more. Stuck on that number with one minute to go, Salerno cracked the ice again for a 7-5 game. Haspert earned a game saving turnover and answered seconds later with enough time to spare, but Salerno's shot found the net of Krasner as time expired.
Mount St. Mary's stands 5-9 with a 3-4 record in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Siena holds an 11-4 record and is 6-1 in the league.
Home for the final two games in the regular season, the Mount looks to clinch a playoff spot as they host Manhattan Wednesday (Apr. 17) and Marist Saturday (Apr. 20).
