EMMITSBURG, Md. (April 10, 2024) – Eight different Mountaineers scored a goal, including three with hat tricks, and the defense forced nine turnovers with 20 ground balls as Mount St. Mary's women's lacrosse took control early for a 15-6 win over the Rider Broncs.
The victory is key for positioning in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) standings, where the Mount now stands 3-3 in league play for sole possession of fifth place.
Madison Harmening,
Anna McQuay, and
Mackenzi Furlong were the hat trick talliers for the Mount in the victory. Furlong added an assist to lead the team with four points.
MK Allingham also had three points, thanks to contributing two assists. Nine different players had a caused turnover, including
Hailey Chester, who also led in draw controls with six and ground balls with three.
Ashlyn Watkins and
Camille Thomas had three times as many saves as goals allowed, with Watkins leading the group with six stops.
Rider received a multi-goal effort from Kylee Garcia. Katie Walsh finished with a goal, four draw controls, an assist, caused turnover, and ground ball. The Broncs are now 2-4 in MAAC play.
Seizing the contest from the start, the Mountaineers posted the first four goals. McQuay had two in the opening run along with goals from Chester and
Logan Cook. After Rider scored to get on the board, Mount St. Mary's rattled off another seven in a row. Furlong obtained her hat trick within this span, forcing a first half running clock. The Broncs added a second before halftime.
Harmening began the second half with two goals to secure her hat trick and keep the momentum in the Mount's favor.

Abby Yesko put their names on the scoresheet in the closing minutes.
Rounding out their regular season road slate, Mount St. Mary's heads to Siena for a Saturday (Apr. 13) showdown.
